We like to save every tree we can, we like to plant a tree, wherever possible we like to preserve a tree not cut it down. Trees and plants are vital to our well-being, our biodiversity, and our ecosystems. Even though we are professional tree surgeons, sometimes a tree is just too sick to be saved, and sometimes you may acquire sites where other people have not tried to maintain trees but instead have simply felled them. In these cases, you could be left with tree stumps that may need removing by stump grinding.
Professional stump grinding or professional tree stump removal is the process of removing the final part of the tree stump that remains in the ground after felling, the stump can be at ground level, or sitting above the ground. The stump that is left behind can be unsightly and can cause problems if not removed. Sometimes the tree stumps can start sprouting again or suffer from root disease or fungi such as honey fungus, which sounds much nicer than it actually is!
Begin your project by clearing the ground
If you are contemplating a tree planting project and your ground has an old tree stump on it, it is better to begin with professional tree stump removal. You can then start with good ground, with less risk of disease and a better end result. We offer stump grinding as part of our professional arborist services, which includes tree planting, tree relocation, tree surgery and tree inspection.
Some things are best left to professionals
There are all sorts of bad ways to remove tree stumps, people try to burn them, they pour chemicals on them, they hack away at them with chainsaws. As we are professional tree surgeons, we use specialist equipment, known as a stump grinder. A stump grinder does exactly what it says on the tin! It grinds the stump into a fine sawdust, which can then rot down into the ground putting nutrients back into the soil, it can be used on both large and small stumps. Depending on your plans for the green space, we can grind the stump down to different levels. If you want to lay turf, or replant with another tree, the depth of grinding the stump will be different. Stump grinding does not always remove all the roots, as these can rot down into the earth and release their nutrients back into the soil.
With our professional, specialist local knowledge, we will be able to best advise on the level of stump grinding required for you and your tree regeneration project. Our teams are all fully qualified, trained and insured, and are overseen by a professional industry expert who is contactable 24/7.
